Too many requests (rate limit)
What the broker's request limit is and how the app stays under it.
Updated
What you see
- A Captcha or too many requests alert.
- Or "Too many requests (429)", orders slow down, or the broker blocks the login for a short time.
Why
Brokers limit how many requests one login can make.
- Tradovate: about 5,000 per hour per login, with shorter limits per minute. This number comes from Tradovate's partner docs and reports from other users.
- TopstepX (ProjectX): 200 per minute on most calls.
All apps on the same login share the limit: your trading platform, other copiers, and TwinCopier.
Each copy is one request per follower. Each edit (moving a stop) is one more per follower. 1 leader with 20 followers, moving your stop 10 times = 200 requests.
What the app does
- It reads live updates from the broker's stream. It does not ask again and again.
- It shows how many requests each login used in the last minute, in Connections and Groups.
- It warns you when a login gets close to its limit.
- When the broker says "slow down", it waits and sends the orders in order. It tells you if a copy is late.
What you can do
- Move stops less often, or in bigger steps.
- Split very large groups across logins. One login per prop firm is normal.
- Remove other tools that use the same login.
